Description

The King of Meditation or in Sanskrit the Samadhi Raja Sutra forms the perfect link between the Mahayana training of a Bodhisattva and the profound tradition of Buddhist meditation practice known as Mahamudra. This is one of the few sutras of the Buddha discussing Mahamudra and in addition to Thrangu Rinpoche's commentary part of this sutra has been translated here. This sutra is well known because it contains a prediction by the Buddha that Gampopa would transmit the Mahamudra teachings in Tibet.

"Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche is a sublime being whose eminent character never departs from loving kindness and compassion. He is a great Buddhist teacher possessing the three qualities of learning, pure conduct and noble-mindedness. He is also an expert in exposition, debate and composition. Given in the style of pith instructions, these profound lectures contain the key points of the Samadhi Raja Sutra, the words of our compassionate Buddha. This is accompanied by an explanation by the lord of the Dharma, Jamgon Lodro Thaye's song of experience in Mahamudra. It is therefore my request that all Dharma practitioners take the meaning of these extremely precious teachings to heart and make it a personal experience through correct practice. Please treasure this Dharma book with great care and appreciation." --Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

This book of 191 pages translated by Erik Pema Kunsang also includes a translation of the Song of Lodro Thaye and a very brief commentary by Thrangu Rinpoche on this important work.
