Saraha (in the 8th Century living in India) who is credited with originating the teachings of Mahamudra wrote three famous Dohas. The story goes that he met a an arrow-maker and learned from her Mahamudra meditation. After that he left position of head Bramin the King's palace and began living with the arrow-maker and first the people asked him to return to his post, but instead he rejected the offer with the People's Doha. Then the queen asked Saraha to return and he rejected the offer with the Queen's doha, and finally the King asked him to return and he rejected the offer with the King's Doha. Each of these spiritual songs is entirely different and lays out the principles of Mahamudra when the word "mahamudra" was unknown. Thrangu Rinpoche has given a commentary on each of these Dohas showing how they relate to modern Mahamudra practice. Rinpoche's commentary on the Queen's Doha is the middle length doha and is being readied to be published as a book from Namo Buddha Publications.
