Mahamudra, or Great Seal, refers to a path to enlightenment taught by the Buddha and transmitted through the spiritual lineage of Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa, and Milarepa. Gampopa who lived in the 11th century brought together these teachings of Mahamudra into one five-fold path of enlightened motivation, deity yoga, guru yoga, Mahamudra, and proper dedication.

These teachings became the major approach to Mahamudra meditation for the Drikung Kagyu lineage and this book is a very readable translation of the text clarifying the Jewel Rosary of the Profound Five-fold Path by Kunga Rinchen. This book is not by Thrangu Rinpoche but is a Kagyu text on Mahamudra.

This book is a commentary that Thrangu Rinpoche gave in Crestone, Colorado on Karma Chagme's Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. For this teaching he used the full length teaching, not the short 40 verse teaching of the same name taught on by Chokie Nyima Rinpoche and his Seattle teaching. Karma Chagme in the 17th Century was recognized as outstanding practitioner of the Karma Kagyu and also the Nyigma Payul tradition of looking directly at the mind to see its true nature.

In this book Thrangu Rinpoche gives a complete description of all the elements of Mahamudra meditation and then relates these to the Trecho aspect of the Dzogchen teaching. He then goes into the Leapover Togyal) aspect of Dzogchen and then gives a detailed description of the advance Seven Lamps of Thogyal Practice.

“The lucid clarity of Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche’s commentary illuminates Karma Chagme’s precious text on the Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen for today’s Dharma practitioners. It is simple, practical, and profound--it insstructs, inspires, and encourages meditators in the work of realizing the true nature of mind.” --The Twelfth Kenting Tai Situpa

“It is outstanding that these two great masters...are together at last: the incredible Karma Chagme (1613-1678) and the beloved teeacher of our times Thrangu Rinpoche. In this book you will fiind literally everything you need to know for authentic Dharma practice laid out with luminous clarity”
